A week before Brandon died, he and I saw a production of Puccini's La Boheme. Had we known Italian, we may have left singing the classic operatic pieces. More familiar to us, however, was the modern rendition of the story and its accompanying music. So, as we had done a number of times in the past, we kicked up the volume to "I'll Cover You" (both the regular version and the reprise) from Rent and sang it to each other with all the gusto, love, and enthusiasm of Broadway...just maybe not with as much obvious training. ;)
I asked my dad to play "I'll Cover You" at Brandon's funeral, during the prelude. Despite his world-class training in organ performance and all the propriety related thereto, he consented. :) That's love.
One of the other less traditional prelude numbers I requested was Billy Joel's "Goodnight My Angel":
Music. Few things compare.
